Scaling Payments in Black Friday 2018
If you are a software engineer in e-commerce domain and you want to gain more experience in scalability and high availability areas, probably you love special days like “Singles’ Day”, “Black Friday” or “Cyber Monday” because e-commerce traffic spikes exponentially on these days and there are too many risks on software and hardware infrastructure. These high risks also lead to higher engineering experience that you can gain in a single day. Engineering community usually thinks about scalability issues for e-commerce websites but there is another big domain behind the scenes: Payments. In this session, Yalçın Yenigün will talk about his scalability experience at iyzico (one of the biggest fintech companies of Turkey) which scaled daily transaction count by more than 300% in that day. This session is about database scalability (scaling the data), application scalability, microservices (splitting the monoliths), failover management, latency management and all the lessons learned in Black Friday 2018.
